| First settled in 1884,
Bushnell now has a population of about 2,100 and is located on I-75, 37 miles south of
Ocala and 60 miles north of Tampa. It is the seat of government for Sumter County and was
named after John W. Bushnell, an engineer, who laid out the railroad from Bushnell to
Panasoffkee. Sumter County has access to all of Florida with its great transportation
connections to I-75, HWY 301, and the Florida Turnpike. The area has an abundance of
farming and fishing. Webster,FL
is just 7 miles to the southeast where the famous Farmers Market explodes into activity
every Monday morning. Lake Panasoffkee is
just 8 miles north. |
